Privacy and trust

Privacy is designed in, not added on.

Health information is some of the most personal information there is. Here’s how we protect it.

Our commitments

  • The person controls the record

The person decides who can see their information, and can change those choices at any time.

  • One key per person

Each person’s information is protected with its own encryption key. Those keys are held in New Zealand.

  • Built to New Zealand rules

Designed against the Health Information Privacy Code 2020 and the Privacy Act 2020 from the outset.

  • Synthetic data until we’re ready

Our prototype uses synthetic data only. No real patient information is used until production safeguards are in place.

  • Data sovereignty

Control sits with the person and their whānau, and is built into the structure of the system.

  • Monitoring is opt-in

For health monitoring at home, the person chooses what is measured, how often and who sees it. Family access is never assumed.

  • Safeguards for supporters

Where someone acts on a person’s behalf, we control who is authorised and keep a record the person can check.

  • Clear about what’s where

We describe our setup precisely and update this page as it changes.
