Health and aged care
Kōrero Clear
An accessibility companion for health conversations. It helps older people and their whānau understand what was said, and what happens next.
Translation keeps the meaning whole.
Kōrero Clear doesn’t shorten what was said or replace the clinical record. It makes the same information accessible to the person it’s about.
“We’ll titrate your antihypertensive down and repeat your eGFR in six weeks before we consider re-escalating.”
Your doctor is lowering the dose of your blood pressure medicine.
In about six weeks you’ll have a blood test to check how well your kidneys are working. After that, your doctor will decide whether to change the dose again.
Illustrative example. Our prototype uses synthetic content only.
How it works
The person agrees
Nothing happens without the person’s consent, and they can withdraw it at any time.
The conversation is translated
What was said is put into clear, accessible language, with the meaning intact.
The person decides who sees it
They choose which whānau or support people can access it.
Whānau can follow along
Family can revisit what was said after the appointment, instead of hearing it second-hand.
Grounded in your rights
Kōrero Clear is designed to support the Code of Health and Disability Services Consumers’ Rights.
Right 5
Effective communication, in a form you can understand.
Right 6
To be fully informed about your condition and options.
Right 7
To make an informed choice and give informed consent.
Right 8
To have a support person with you.
Who it’s for
Older people
Anyone who wants to be sure they’ve understood their care.
Whānau and carers
Family members supporting someone, often from a distance.
Providers
Clinical and aged care teams who want their patients to leave appointments informed.
Where we’re up to
Kōrero Clear is in prototype. It is being built and tested with synthetic data only, so no real patient information is involved at this stage.
We’re talking with health and aged care providers who are interested in piloting it with us. Each pilot will measure what changes for people, whānau and care teams.
